I am a Research Assistant in Dr Alessandra Granata’s lab in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences. Using patient-derived iPSCs, I am working on a disease model for Cerebral Small Vessel Disease (SVD). SVD is the most common pathology associated with vascular dementia and it has a crucial role in ischaemic strokes; however, the pathology is poorly understood. I will be using a 3D in vitro blood-brain barrier model established in the Granata Lab to investigate the mechanistic causes of SVD with a focus on the leakage of the blood-brain barrier. We hope that this research will contribute to an improvement in the care of patients inflicted with this debilitating disease.
